Trip To Waseda University
Posted on Jul 28, 2022.
I took the shinkansen on 7/26 with Miwa and Morikita to arrive at Higashi Shinjuku around 5:00 pm. I was very tired. Next, I had a nice dinner at a yakiniku restaurant in the Korean town of Shinjuku with Prof. Hatanaka and Prof. Hirata.
The next day, we had a progress meeting with Wasa, Prof. Hatanaka, Prof. Hirata, and their respective students. Very interesting. I especially liked the research theme of Tanaka, where he transformed an optimization problem with an expected value to a sampling-type problem. First time learning this kind of tool.
The same day, Prof. Hatanaka needed to go for another business trip to Hyogo. Wasa, Prof. Hirata, the students, and I went eat at a very nice Italian restaurant (I had a tuna pizza). Afterwards, Wasa very kindly guided me in the main campus of Waseda University.
We went from the engineering campus to the main campus with the red bus (see picture below).
Next, we went to see the founder of Waseda University: Okuma Shigenobu.
We then went visit the library and the bunraku museum of Waseda University.
Finally, we went to the garden of the university, a very peaceful and traditional place. We relaxed at a terrasse cafe, where Wasa drank a coffee and I drank a draft beer.
I left Waseda around 4pm and arrived at Toyama around 9:00pm. A very tiring but very memorable journey. Thanks Wasa for the guided tour!
